September 8th, 2023 -The Nyack Joint Fire District sadly announces the passing of Joseph A. Maragliano, a dedicated member of the Nyack Fire Department who contributed countless hours and days spanning 54 years to the service. Upon Firefighter Maragliano’s passing, the Nyack Joint Fire District Chairman Ted Ryder issued the following statement:
“As a pillar of the community, Joseph A. Maragliano’s dedication to service cannot be overstated. In his critical role as a tillerman, Firefighter Maragliano ensured the safety of his fellow firemen and countless members of the community. His masterful operation of the rear wheels and ladder of the company’s fire truck ensured that the fire emergency response times were efficient in even the mostnarrow and crowded local streets. Firefighter Maragliano’s actions minimized potentially catastrophic property damage and saved an untold number of lives. Firefighter Maragliano was the classic straight shooter who spoke in clear terms to get the job done. The Nyack Joint Fire District thanks Joseph A. Maragliano for his stalwart contribution to the Fire Department and his community.”
Firefighter Maragliano is survived by his wife, Dorina; two adult children, Sherry and Joseph, Jr. (and wife Dana); and two grandchildren, Madison and Jaxon, who will carry on Firefighter Maragliano’s legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Firefighter Maragliano ‘s name to the Empire Hook and Ladder Company as well as Nyack Ambulance Corps.
